| It’s not news anymore, to hear youth being involved in lawless activities in Kampala and other urban cities across Uganda. Youth have been used by politicians to engage in riots and other criminals acts, to satisfy the politicians’ selfish needs. As a result, many youth have found themselves behind bars or even severely injured in these riots. Yet the politicians, who lure the youth in committing such criminal acts, remain at large. The youth are a critical force in the development of any society. This is why every parent and guardian should take charge of their destiny and become the forces of social change in the society. The youth in Uganda should be introduced to different activities that enable them gain self-esteem, believe in themselves, and gain analytical, decision making and general life skill. Making youth idle, results in them engaging in irresponsible activities such as; alcoholism and use of illicit drugs. It is important that our youth in Uganda be raised to become socially responsible citizens. Besides providing youth with material and technical support, we should encourage them to engage in socially awareness projects and activities that prepare them for a better future.Empowering the youth in Uganda is one constant fact of life. It’s a continuous project because each day young children transit to the youth stage. Unfortunately, not so many organizations have come up to lift the youth. Some of them still engage in irresponsible behavior on the streets of urban areas such as; pick pocketing, drugs and alcohol consumption among others. Through youth empowerment, they become aware of the needs of the people in the communities around them.I call upon the responsible stakeholders, in youth upbringing and empowerment to pull up their socks and do the needful. These include; parents, Ministry for Gender, Labor and Social Development plus Uganda Police Force among others. By Irene Mbabazi in Mbarara ReplyReply allForward | |
