Suspected Karimajong warriors have brutally killed a prison warder attached to Orom-Tikau prison farm in Kitgum district.

The Orom Sub County LCIII Chairperson Johnson Acellam Toodera confirms the incident that occurred in Tikau village, Gule parish and identifies the deceased as Dickson Akuna who was reportedly confronted by yet unknown assailants from his garden on Friday evening.

According to Toodera preliminarily investigation of the brutal manner in which the officer was killed  links the incident to suspected Jie warriors who could have ambushed the prison warder when he was in his garden.

The Uganda Prisons Spokesperson Frank Baine regrets the incident saying the officer was slain by the assailants who slit the deceased’s throat and caused multiple injuries on the legs and other parts of the body.

Baine says the police canine unit of Kitgum Central Police Station has launched a pursuit and investigations into the matter are ongoing.

The Officer in Charge of Orom Prison Farm Shem Lwanga says they got to learn about the incident after the deceased officer failed to return to the barracks after he had gone to inspect his garden on Friday evening.

Lwanga says a pursuit was mounted on Saturday morning that discovered the deceased’s body in his garden next to the prison farm.

Kitgum Resident District Commissioner William Komakech says a pursuit was later mounted by joint sister security personnel including, UPDF, Police, Prisons and Anti Stock Theft Unit are in pursuit of the assailants.

Komakech says the assailants, believed to be ten in numbers according to their footprints, headed from Tikau towards Lutoo wilderness in Orom Sub County where they are suspected to be hiding.
