Two hand grenades have been recovered in Galilaya village, Odwarat Sub-County, Ngora district.  They were discovered on Saturday by a 21- year- old woman in her garden.

Oscar Gregg Ageca, the East Kyoga Regional Police Spokesman says the hand grenades are suspected to have been abandoned during the insurgency in the Teso sub-region in the 1980s and the 1990s.

He implored the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious objects to the authorities.

In February, a 15- year- old boy, Ben Akol was killed by the grenade explosion in Kapelebyong district.

Last year, another grenade injured a family in Ngora after it was discovered in their garden. The grenade was mistaken as scrap until it exploded.

Teso was a battlefield for the Uganda People’s Army against the then National Resistance Army in the 1980s before the Karamojong insurgency and the Lord’s Resistance Army in early 2000.

Every year, explosives like bombs, grenades and ammunition are recovered especially in the gardens during cultivation.
