Police in Sironko district is investigating circumstances under which an 82-year-old woman was murdered and her body dumped in a water source.
The victim, Agnes Nandede, a resident of Buhahanga cell in Bukiiyi sub county Sironko district allegedly went missing from her home last week; her lifeless body was found floating on Buhahanga water source on Monday morning by some people who had gone to draw water.
Her body was retrieved from the water well by Police with the help of the community members.
According to residents in the area, they have been looking for the deceased since last week after she went missing from her home only to find her floating on a water source whose water they use for domestic purposes.
Rogers Taitika, the Elgon Region Police Spokesperson confirmed the incident and said that police have already started investigations into the matter to ascertain the cause of Nandede’e death and the people behind it to be charged with murder.
He said that such murders of old people happen because of their wealth especially land and they are killed and dumped in such places like water sources to sabotage the evidence.
Nandede’s body has been taken to Mbale city mortuary for postmortem as investigations continue.
