The Officer in charge of Ruharo police post in Mbarara City North Division has been shot dead.

Richard Agaba was killed last night by unknown assailants.  Samson Kasasira, the Rwizi Police Spokesperson says that Agaba who was on patrol fell into an ambush of thugs who were armed with a gun and a panga.

According to Kasasira, the deceased’s gun was reportedly also taken by the assailants.

Kasasira explains that preliminary investigations show that Agaba received a telephone call from a Boda Boda rider Muzamiru Kiiza that armed robbers had attacked Step Up bar in Kiyanja cell, Ruharo ward. He adds that Agaba and another vigilante James Tumusiime rushed to the area, but found the thugs had fled.

Kasasira says that Agaba and Tumusiime mounted a search of the thugs, but were unlucky when the thugs attacked Agaba and shot him. Agaba died on arrival at Mbarara regional referral hospital.

Kasasira says that Investigations have commenced to arrest the assailants and also discover the stolen gun.

The Incident happens days after security personnel carried out an operation and arrested seven suspected thugs that have been terrorizing residents.  The thugs were picked from two different lodges in the Kizungu market cell and were found with stolen property.
