The Police in Bukedea have arrested the Store Manager of Bukedea District Local Government over the disappearance of 1,648 hand hoes under the National Agriculture Advisory Services- NAADs Program.
The hoes were stolen last week but the authorities discovered them missing last Friday when they went to distribute them to the beneficiaries of Aligoi Sub County in Bukedea district.
The Police then arrested Edward Isaac Emuron, to help with the investigations. Oscar Gregg Ageca, the East Kyoga Regional Police Spokesman, says that they have opened a general inquiry file No. 04/2021 to investigate circumstances under, which a consignment of hoes valued at 18,962,000 Shillings went missing.
Ageca says that the suspect will be produced to court this week after the investigations.
Geoffrey Okiswa, the Resident District Commissioner of Bukedea says the officer was arrested because of professional negligence and laziness. He says that the district received 103, 600 hoes from NAADs Secretariat, which were distributed across the district.
Okiswa says Aligoi was the last sub-county to receive hoes when a deficit of the hoes was realized.
Bukedea is the district in Teso after Soroti City to record and arrest officers in relation to the theft of NAADs hoes.
In Soroti, 14 officers and three traders were arrested over the theft of more than 5,000 hoes meant for the city dwellers.
Some of the traders have been convicted by the court while others are still appearing for the hearing.
