Another body of a yet to be identified woman has been found in a eucalyptus forest in Kyondo cell, scheme Ward in Nyamwamba division of Kasese Municipality. The deceased believed to be in her 60’s had multiple cuts on the head.

Area residents suspect that she was killed from a different place and her body dumped in the forest. This brings to six, the number of people found dead under unclear circumstances in less than two weeks in the municipality. Four of these are not known to locals in the areas where the bodies were found.

Simon Marisaba, who was the first to see the body said he was alerted by bloodstain in his path, which led him to the body a few meters from where he was standing. He then alerted the locals of the area who also called in the police.

Emmanuel Katuramu the LCI chairperson of the area says that the deceased is not known to the area but suspects that most of these cases are a result of domestic violence and escalating poverty.

Pimako Kasereka, the area LCIII chairman says many people are desperate for money and can do anything including murder to get what to eat. Residents have continued to call for increased security patrols at night.

ASP Nelson Tumushiime, the police spokesperson for Rwenzori East Region says that the police are investigating the cases and arresting the culprits.

According to the annual crime police report-2020 compiled by the Criminal Investigations Directorate, up to 4,460 people were killed in a period of 12 months through assault, poisoning, arson, shooting or mob action. This translates into 12 deaths every day.
