The Dokolo District Education Officer-DEO, Bosco Bwonyo Acup has succumbed to COVID-19. Bwonyo has been under home-based care after testing positive for the virus in the past few days.

The deceased has also been diabetic. The deceased’s brother, Rashid Acup broke the news of his death on WhatsApp.

“With deep sorrow, I announce the sudden death of my brother Mr. Bwonyo Bosco Acup who has been the DEO Dokolo. He was rushed to Lira Regional Referral Hospital yesterday after a diabetic attack and breathed his last this Sunday morning at around 5 am. Burial arrangements will be communicated later,” he said.

Musafiri Suwed, the Dokolo District Information Officer, says that Bwonyo developed breathing complications in the wee hours of Sunday morning and was rushed to Lira Regional Referral Hospital from where he died hours later.

Geoffrey Ocen, the Amolatar District LC V chairperson described the deceased as a hardworking and God-fearing person.

“He was a kind man who served his district diligently with humility. He was passionate about service delivery, a team player and above all a true servant of God.”

Previously, Bwonyo tutored at Loro Core primary teacher’s college before joining Lira District Local Government as the acting District Education Officer.

He crossed to the then Lira municipal council as the Municipal Education of Officer. In 2018, he joined Dokolo District Local Government as the District Education Officer.
