Arua regional referral hospital has received a boost of 20 Oxygen filled Cylinders to enhance the fight against Covid19 and support Neo-natal unit.
The donation from Nile Breweries Limited as part of its corporate social responsibility comes following an outcry by the hospital administration for 60 more Oxygen Cylinders to meet the Oxygen supply needs for Covid19 and other patients.
While handing over the Oxygen filled cylinders to Arua hospital Administration, Samuel Ssekajja the Regional Sales Manager Nile Breweries said the company decided to support lives during this period when the Country is battling with the second wave of Covid19 pandemic.
Dr. Gilbert Aniku the acting Director Arua regional referral hospital said the donation has come in time to alleviate the strain of the increased demand for Oxygen in the Covid19 treatment center, Pediatric and Neonatal units of Arua hospital.
Valet Barungi the head of Oxygen Plant Arua Regional Referral Hospital said with the 20 additional Oxygen Cylinders, they will now be able to handle the current Oxygen needs at the hospital.
Barungi noted that though the plant has the capacity to produce 15,000 litres of Oxygen per minute, they have been able to produce adequate Oxygen due to inadequate number of Cylinders
Last week MPs on the Covid19 Pandemic Committee were perturbed to learn that Arua regional referral hospital had only 90 Cylinders and required more 60 to manage the Oxygen needs of the hospital.
The inadequacy of cylinders also limited the Oxygen plant from producing to capacity since there has been shortage of containers to store it.
Arua hospital according to the management still has a deficit of 40 Oxygen cylinders to enable the plant produce and store the required Oxygen for the regional hospital.
