The Kawempe North MP elect Muhamad Segirinya alias Mr. Updates has been granted Bail out of Kitalya Prison where he had spent close to three weeks.

Segirinya was arrested on March 22, from Downtown Kampala where he had staged a peaceful demonstration demanding for the release of the National Unity Platform supporters.

During today’s afternoons’ Court session that was held at the Buganda Road Court, the Magistrate ordered granted Segirinya a Shs 3M Cash Bail and a non-cash bond of  Shs 50M to his securities

The Court however also ordered that the original copies of their National Identity cards should be left in the custody of the court

Mr. Updates was detained in Kitalya prison on the March 22 on grounds of inciting violence while he was demonstrating against the increased abductions of his party supporters (NUP) during and after the election period along the Kampala streets in down town

Ssegirinya through his lawyers led by Shamim Malende who also doubles as also the Kampala District Woman MP had on several occasions applied for court bail a thing that the magistrate had earlier denied

On March 23, the Magistrate ruled that the court had a remarkable list of pending business and could not attend to Ssegirinya’s Bail application

And the last was on 8 April when his lawyers had made controversial statements according to the magistrate

According Malende as lawyers of the accused, they were prepared for a bail hearing and not a hearing of the main case.

She also noted that they tried to look for the Prosecutors through their known offices to serve them in vain.

Ssegirinya has nearly spent a month inside the steel bars and has missed out on other government programs like the vaccination of all MPs from the 10 and 11 parliament
