Price Kassim Nakibinge, the grand leader of the Kibuli Muslim faction has called upon the government to adopt Islamic Banking and save Muslims from engaging in the sinful acts of giving out and receiving “interest” which is not allowed in Islam.
Nakibinge, who was meeting different Muslim leaders who were recently elected in different positions in the country, said that this banking will help both the borrowers and banks grow simultaneous, since the bank will not allow the business of its customer to fall
“There are many examples that Ugandan leaders can look up to if only they adopted this kind of banking. This system has been in existence for many years and has proved effective. Look at the United Kingdom or Kenya if we are to go region
“The problem is not with the system but we should look at why it failed and if Uganda is to grow he said it should adopt to the Islamic system of banking that requires “no interest”
He said that countries that adopted this banking system have not been affected by big challenges and if they experienced some, they managed to solve them.
He noted that there is a lot of expertise in this country if only government could look in the right places, because it has the power and ability to access these kind of people and information if they want to, all they have to do is consult
Also present at the ceremony was the speaker hon Rebecca Kadaga who supported the idea and claimed full support from the house
We want to embrace this kind of banking as soon as possible because we want even the Moslems to fully enjoy financial services without going short of their beliefs and region she said
Kadaga added that this was a matter of urgency and should will be treated like the matter it was
The Kyadondo East MP elect, Muwada Nkunyinji thanked the Prince for the initiative and promised to work towards the aspirations of the people who voted and trusted him
“We are grateful for such an opportunity it is really the first of its time that a Muslim leader calls us as Muslim politicians to guide us all the way,” Nkunyinji said
The function was also attended many Muslim politicians like’; the Kawempe South MP elect Kazibwe Bashir Mbazzira, Kampala Woman MP elect Shamim Malende, Kira municipality’s lbrahim Nganda, who is also aspiring for Speakership job, among others
This initiative was initiated by Prince Nakibinge to help bring into context the role of Muslim leaders towards the development of Musim fraternity and the country at large.
