After close to a year of school closure by the government over fears of rampant spread of the deadly COVID-19 which halted many teachers’ employment opportunities, government has prior to opening of all education institutions revealed that its set to recruit Teachers to fill up the existing vacancies within the operational grant aided/ seed secondary schools that are constructed under the Uganda Inter-Government Fiscal Transfer Program (UGIFT).
The Ministry of Education and Sports under the Education Service Commission (ESC) noted that a total of 2542 teachers are to benefit from the call for applications.
Addressing journalists at the Uganda media centre (UMC) on Tuesday regarding the recruitment procedure, the ESC chairperson Rev. Prof. Dr. Samuel Lugoba noted that the available vacancies are the ones in the 82 operational Seed Secondary Schools where he noted that each of these schools is expected to have 31 staff.
“The Education Service Commission received a submission from Ministry of Education and Sports to recruit teachers in categories of operational seed secondary schools, non operational seed schools and expanded government schools,” he said.
Interviews are scheduled to take place from February22 to March 13 2021 in the respective schools.
Lugoba however revealed that they (ESC) will also recruit a total of 554 teachers that are to fill up vacancies in 18 non- operational newly constructed seed secondary schools.
“ESC will advertise these vacancies after completion of the recruitment of teachers in the already operating schools,” he said.
He as well said that there will also be recruitment of teachers for 16 already existing government schools whose infrastructure has been expanded under the UGIFT Program and that these recruitments are to be implemented in April this year.
Meanwhile, Lugoba appreciated the fact that seed schools have boosted the education sector of the country by both educating the young generation and overwhelmingly avail employment opportunities to teachers in their respective subject disciplines.
“Since the introduction of seed schools in 2010, government has to date recruited 9612 staff for a total of 356 seed schools” he said.
He however, urged ESC Staff and teachers to desist from any act related to corruption while going into the recruitment and interview process citing that acts of corruption have no room in the core values of the entity and the entire Education Ministry and that those caught will face the full wrath of the law.
“In conformity with the Uganda Anti-Corruption Act, 2009 and the Zero Tolerance to Corruption Policy 2019, the education service commission upholds the cores of; transparency effectiveness, efficiency, professionalism and integrity,” he said.
