The UPDF 1st Division Court Martial on Friday sentenced a local defense unit (LDU) personnel to five years in jail for killing UBC Journalist Robert Kagolo.
Rashid Mamuli 25 was charged with manslaughter that ended the life of Kagolo on 29th April 2021 when he was at his brother’s home in Kasenge Wakiso district.
Court chairman Col. Sam Mugyenyi asked Rashid Mamuli to say anything before they read the judgment and Mamuli asked for forgiveness because he did not intend to kill Kagolo.
Col Sam Mugyenyi delivered the judgment and said that they dropped the charges of Murder from Mamuli because he did not intend to kill Kagolo and was charged with Manslaughter and sentenced to five years in prison.
According to UPDF first division spokesperson Maj. Charles Kabona the murder charges were dropped since the convict had no intention of killing the deceased and he said that as UPDF they are going to help the family of late Kagolo but they have to fill some forms.
