The Police in Namisindwa District has arrested the Chairperson of Emyooga SACCO over alleged misuse of 17 Million Shillings.

Anthony Namasata a resident of Magale town council in Namisindwa district and Chairperson of Bubulo East Constituency Produce Dealers Sacco was arrested on Tuesday from Munamba trading centre.

Benjamin Mudumbi, the Namisindwa District Criminal Intelligence Department says that the missing money was meant for 18 groups. He said that Namasata and the SACCO treasurer withdrew 23.7 Million Shillings to give to the groups but they disbursed less which raised concerns among the members.

He was charged with embezzlement and misuse and obtaining money by false pretence.

According to executive committee members, Namasata abandoned the group shortly after withdrawing the money.

Apollo Masika, the Namisindwa County Member of Parliament condemned the act of misusing the funds. He says that the money is meant to benefit all the people of the district not only one individual.

He pledged to follow up the Emyooga program in the district to ensure anyone who misuses the funds is arrested and prosecuted to fight corruption.

Last month, the Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Anita Among sent Members of Parliament on a working recess in their respective constituencies to assess the impacof the Emyooga program.
