Tooro United and Arua City are delighted with their promotion to Uganda’s top flight league, Star Times Uganda Premier league, after topping their respective groups.

Arua City emerged the leaders of the Elgon group with 30 points after humbling Paidha Black Angels 4-0 on the Monday deadline while Tooro United topped Rwenzori group with 31 points, after also overcoming Kigezi Homeboys 1-0 in final group game.

This is Arua City’s debut in the top league since it was started in 2005. The West Nile based team has spent six seasons in the FUFA Big league, however Tooro United will be joining the league for the second time.  The Tooro based time first earned its place in the league in 2013, but it was relegated in 2018 to FUFA Big league.

Hussein Mbalangu, head coach Arua hill said the team is excited about the promotion to Uganda Premier league, he said they have worked for this in the last six years.

Rayyan Hashim Sayyid, CEO of Tooro United told newsmen that at the moment the entire team is excited about the promotion to the top league, he however made it clear that it is in their minds that the top league is not easy.

Rayyan added that they have shifted their focus to the finals where they will play the leader of the Elgon group to decide the champion of the league.

The two teams will however meet in a final game for the two groups to determine the champion of FUFA Big league.

Four other teams, two from each group of Rwenzori and Elgon will also battle in a semifinal clash to decide who will join Arua and Tooro to storm Uganda Premier League, the second and third from Rwenzori as well as the second and third from Elgon group.

Gaddaffi came second in Elgon group and Blacks Power FC came third while Proline FC came second in Rwenzori group and Nyamityobora who came third. Now Gadaffi will take on Nyamityobora while Proline will play against Blacks Power FC in the same final.

Apparently two clubs are now confirmed relegation cases to FUFA Big league. MYDA FC and Kitara FC will both play in Big league next season. Currently Kitara is at the bottom of the league with 13 points while MYDA FC is second last with 14 points.

The two teams had got promoted in the last season.

Meanwhile, four other clubs were demoted to regional leagues, Mbale Heroes and Paidha Black Angles got relegated from Elgon group while Kigezi home boys and Terrazzo and Tiles got relegated from Rwenzori group.
