The Police in Dokolo district has arrested their own for allegedly shooting a trader.

Sgt. Emmy Obonyo, the Officer-in-charge Adok Police Station is accused of shooting Jasper Opio, a 28-year-old, resident of Adok Sub County in Dokolo district.

The victim was shot on the legs on Friday evening in Odeo trading centre when the police officers from Adok police station opened fire to disperse traders during the curfew hours.

Opio is currently admitted at Dokolo Health Center IV.

Victoria Akello, one of the residents says that the police should have shot in the air, but not direct their guns at the traders.

Jimmy Patrick Okema, the North Kyoga Police Spokesperson says that the scene of the crime was visited by a team of police officers from Dokolo CPS and a riffle No: UG-POL 563622088-52638 loaded with 16 live ammunitions and six cartridges recovered. He said that the police are closely investigating the matter and ensure the law takes its course.

Okema asked members of the public to desist from provoking security personnel and adhere to the Covid-19 guidelines.

The government imposed a curfew in March last year which started at 9 pm until 5:30 am as a measure to curb COVID-19. However, on Friday, President Museveni revised the curfew time from 7 pm to 5:30 am for 42 days.
