Patients who had been admitted at Kagadi General Hospital have started deserting the facility in fear of contracting the deadly COVID-19.

A visit on Saturday at the facility discovered that most of the beds that had been occupied by patients have remained vacant. The most affected are the children, male and female wards.

At the beginning of this week, 14 health workers attached to Kagadi General hospital tested positive for COVID-19.

Most of the patients who spoke to us on condition of anonymity explained that many people who were in the hospital are fearing for the dear lives after learning that over a dozen health workers  the facility recently tested positive for the pandemic.

They noted that some of the patients started fleeing from the the hospital on Wednesday after reports that some health workers at the facility had tested positive for Coronavirus.

Most of the patients fled even before they obtained discharge forms from health facility.

Simon Peter, the Kagadi Hospital Administrator admits that patients are deserting the facility after some health workers tested positive adding that the most affected are the maternity, male, children and female wards.

According to Peter, each of the wards that used to admit between 20 to 25 patients now have between 4 to 7 patients only.

He attributed the situation to the increasing cases of Covid-19 cases at the hospital and other health centers.

Dr. James Olowo, the Kagadi District Health officer-DHO has called for calm among members of the public saying health officials in the district are doing all it takes to contain the further spread of the pandemic.

He has asked the general public to continue visiting the health facility to get appropriate medical services adding that the whole facility has been fully disinfected after some health workers tested positive.

According to Olowo, most of the COVID-19 patients including some health workers who tested positive are not in critical condition adding that they are being managed from their homes.

Lilian Ruteraho, the Kagadi Resident District Commissioner-RDC who also doubles as the Chairperson COVID-19 Taskforce in the district says cumulatively, the district has recorded 189 COVID-19 cases since March 2020.

Ruteraho has called on all Kagadi residents to strictly observe the issued standard operating procedures-SOPs in order remain safe.
