The Police in Koboko has arrested four teachers for conducting illegal lessons.

The teachers are from various schools within Koboko Municipality and were arrested on Friday morning teaching more than 40 pupils from various schools. They were being taught at Sambya Primary school.

Two weeks ago, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni announced fresh restrictions as part of measures to control the COVID-19 transmissions in the country in face of the second wave of the pandemic.

Among the fresh restrictions, the president directed was the closure of all educational institutions across the country for 42 days.

Lokol Chrisanto the acting District Police Commander Koboko, identified the teachers as Adiga Vincent, Ezati Luke, Driciru Alice and Abigo Robert.

He says the teachers will be charged with disobedience of presidential directives and an act that is likely to cause further spread of Covid-19.

Lokol noted that besides conducting illegal lessons, the teachers and pupils were not adhering to the Covid-19 standard operating procedures- SOPs that include wearing face masks and observing social distance.

Lokol says the parents of the pupils have been summoned to explain why they released their children to the teachers despite the presidential directive.

Wilson Sanya, the Mayor Koboko Municipality has condemned the actions of parents sneaking in their children in school which is against the Ministry of Education and Health guidelines.
