Six teachers from Yanah Primary school in Hoima City East Division who were arrested over the weekend for allegedly conducting lessons in disregard of the partial lock-down are out on police bond. The suspects are Ronald Naizito, Leonard Kyaligonza, Juliet Ndibalekesa, Cissy Namkabirwa, Akio Ntibankane and Fred Mukasa.
The six were caught red-handed by police conducting lessons in disregard of the presidential directive closing all schools for 42 days as part of the measures to contain the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic in the country.
The teachers were arrested alongside eleven pupils. The group was whisked off to Hoima central Police station. Julius Hakiza, the Albertine Region police spokesperson said on Tuesday that the teachers were released on police bond on Monday evening after being cautioned.
He says that the pupils were handed over to the school management to trace their parents. He has advised parents to adopt the homeschooling Programme in order to keep their children safe from COVID-19 infection.
