Bududa Senior Secondary School in Bududa District has been temporarily closed after nine students tested positive for Covid- 19.

The District Covid 19 task force led by the Resident District Commissioner George William Wopuwa said they decided to close the school to prevent further spread of the disease.

Wopuwa said the district surveillance team are doing mandatory tests of Covid-19 in schools to ascertain the status of the students since they interact with many other people in the district.

Zelesi Nabusayi, the Covid- 19 focal person says that they will continue to monitor the condition of the students from their homes, since there is no Covid-19 isolation center in the district.

Davies Wakoba, the Deputy Headteacher Bududa Secondary School said they have complied with the directive to close the school. He however says that the students from other schools should also be tested since most of the students of Bududa Secondary School interact with students from other schools.

Rogers Taitika the Elgon Region Spokesperson said they will ensure that no student or teacher will be allowed to access the school for 14 days.

Godfrey Nambale the Bududa district Assistant Health Officer asked all people to observe the covid-19 Standard Operating Procedures- SOPs.

Last year, Bududa district registered more than 40 Covid-19 and 4 deaths.
