Eight Uganda People’s Defense Forces soldiers are nursing injuries following a road accident in Bundibugyo District.  The eight were injured in an accident, which also claimed the life of a pedestrian identified as Eric Kiiiza on Monday afternoon.

The accident occurred when a numberless armoured UPDF vehicle alias Nyoka lost control and overturned at Dumba cell in Bundibugyo town council along Fort Portal-Bundibugyo road. The Bundibugyo District police commander, Aggrey Okumu, says that the armoured vehicle was on a routine road test carrying ten soldiers led by Major Issaca Irama when the accident happened. He blames the accident on a mechanical condition that failed steering functions.

Police have identified the injured soldiers as Sgt. Godfrey Magaruru, the driver of the armoured vehicle, Pte. Erias Muhumuza, Pte. Saturday Robert and Pte. Gracious Tumuhairwe. Others are Cpl. John Ajuma, Cpl. Musa Kagwa, Cpl. Sowedi Barumba anad Pte. Edgar Muramira. Okuma said all the injured soldiers are attached to Kanyamwirima army detach in Bundibugyo.

Last month four, people died on spot in an accident in the middle of Semuliki National Park along Bundibugyo- Fort-Portal road in Bundibugyo district. The accident occurred when a speeding taxi lost control and hit the deceased who were trying to cross the road while returning from collecting firewood. In the same month, three other people were killed when a car they were travelling in overturned at Bundikahungu in Nyahuka town council. Traffic police blamed both incidents on reckless driving and overspeeding.
