Three suspected Karamojong cattle rustlers have been killed by a mob in Bulambuli district.
They were part of six cattle rustlers who had invaded Wangutusi Village in Bunambutye Sub County.
Jude Wandera, the UPDF Spokesperson in the Elgon and Bukedi sub-regions, says that the rustlers were intercepted by Uganda Peoples Defense Forces-UPDF soldiers, who shot three leaving them injured.
According to Wandera, the mob in Wangutusi lynched the injured rustlers as the army was pursuing the other two rustlers.
Wandera said that the hunt for the two rustlers who fled with guns is on. He adds that one of the rustlers was arrested and is currently detained at Kween Army detach.
There has been an increase in cases of cattle rustling in the districts of Bulambuli, Sironko and Kween which prompted the UPDF to heighten security.
In February this year, the Police and the Local Defense Unit shot and killed three Karamonjong cattle rustlers and recovered 8 heads of cattle. In December last year, suspected cattle rustlers raided Bumufuni sub-county Bulambuli district in two separate attacks leaving two people dead and 16 heads of cattle stolen.
