Politics aside, we all would like to see our beloved National team qualify for such prestigious football tournaments similar to Africa Cup of Nations.
We all truly wish well for our national football team. Even if we won our game here against Burkina Faso, on March 24, we would not qualify until this game, against Malawi, which is very few hours away in Blantyre-Malawi. Today’s encounter with Malawi is very important.
Following our newspaper article asking FUFA to give our coaches chance, written recently, after the Hippos convincingly performed in Mauritania, FUFA asked coach Jonathan Mckinistry to step aside (temporarily). A new coach Abdallah Mubiru was appointed to replace unlucky Mckinistry.
The moment is now. If the cranes qualify, it will convince us more that the time has come for us to stop squandering money paying imported football managers.
The Hippos lost to Ghana to fail to lift an important trophy but, sources at FUFA in Mengo have told me FUFA officials, especially CEO Edgar Watson and MP Moses Magogo were left shocked, asking how a mere local coach with as small name, Morley Bwekwaso, could guide very untested and immature boys forming The Hippos to such success.
These two big men had to please local coaches therefore. They temporarily relieved Mckinistry of his duties and gave power to a local coach Abdallah Mubiru.
The game today will be played at 3pm in Malawi. It will be 4pm here. We ask all local coaches to pray for Abdallah Mubiru, Livingstone Mbabazi and Fred Kajoba.
Our win, and qualification for AFCON finals in Cameroon next year, means found opportunities for our local coaches.
Moses Magogo is surely on his way out (he today loves politics more than football). The next FUFA president will prioritize local coaches (more) over foreign ones if Mubiru Abdallah succeeds today, in Blantyre.
