AFCON qualifiers: Cranes players in good shape, ready for crucial game in Malawi

It was quite a disappointment to some football fans in the country when we (The cranes) shared spoils with intimidated Burkina Faso at St. Mary’s Stadium, in Kitende.

Burkina Faso senior team had seen video clips of how our junior team-the Hippos performed against their boys aged Under-20 years in an AFCON tournament in Mauritania.

They came to Kampala knowing it inside them that they would be thumped at Lawrence Mulindwa owned stadium in Kitende if they lazily worked.

My contacts in the Cranes camp have revealed to me that the Cranes, keenly watched by delegation leader Ronnie Kalema, accompanied by FUFA president Moses Magogo, are ready for the crucial game against confident Flames of Malawi.  “Guided by skipper Denis Onyango, every action by these players convinces me that they will win the game,” one of my contacts in Malawi told me.

It is believed that Kamuzu stadium, a stadium that was built on an expansive piece of land and previously holding 60,000 fans, is as intimidating as our own Namboole.

This is a do-or-die contest. Newly appointed head coach Abdallah Mubiru believes the mission is possible. Mubiru told media after the Cranes’ draw with Burkina Faso at Kitende that the struggle would bear fruits away to Malawi. Local coaches are all kneeling, in prayer.

Uganda Cranes is ranked above Malawi according to the recent FIFA rankings. This is one of the most convincing reasons why the coach and entire squad are confident we can succeed today in the steep hills of Malawi.

Uganda and Malawi are in group B. The log leaders Burkina Faso (already through) will play hopeless South Sudan. The Cranes will qualify even if they collect just one point from the Flames, of Malawi.

A Uganda cranes loss to Malawi will be extremely bad news. We shall not qualify if Malawi beats us  in Blantyre. The game is scheduled today March 29, 2021 (Monday) in Kamuzu Stadium located in Chichiri, in Blantyre, at 4:00pm (East African Time).

We are keenly following developments in the Cranes camp in Malawi. For more updates, stick around….
