The incumbent Woman MP of Sironko District, Florence Nambozo Mayoga, who stood on independent ticket after losing the NRM ticket in September last year to Aisha Nabulo Mafabi, the daughter of Hajji Suleiman Lumolo, the Sironko district NRM Chairperson, last week retained her seat after winning the tightly contested race.
Nambozo, who was declared by Gracious Aryaija, the Sironko District Electoral Commission returning officer, scored 31,119 votes followed by Nabulo Mafabi who got 29,744 votes.
The National Unity Platform (NUP)’s Aisha Nakayenze scored 2,743 votes while Forum for Democratic Change (FDC)’s Florence Wadada trailed with 1,791 votes.
The major competition was between the two NRM primaries candidates – Nambozo Mayoga and Nabulo Mafabi.
Nabulo defeated Nambozo in the NRM primaries in September and she (Nambozo) refused to accept the results, citing discrepancies during the polls and decided to stand as an independent candidate.
During this particular race, Nabulo scored 37,644 votes, who was followed by Nambozo with 30,649. Other contestants on the NRM flag were Hilda Nadunga with 6,642 votes, Aisha Nagudi with 610 votes and Rosemary Namono with 184 votes.
FDC wins in Budadiri constituencies
Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party also scooped both Parliamentary seats in Budadiri constituencies (East and West)
This was the fifth term for FDC to retain the Budadiri West Constituency, while it is its first time to win the Budadiri East Constituency.
In Budadiri West, the incumbent Nathan Nandala Mafabi, who also doubles as the FDC Secretary General, did not find hardships in defeating his competitors Wambaka Kosea from NRM, NUP’s Ronald Mafabi, and other independent candidates.
Nandala, who was declared by Aryaija, scored 28,986 votes, followed by Wambaka, who got 11,526 votes.
Independent candidates Masaba Christopher scored 555 votes, followed by peter Muyobo with 488 votes while Mafabi from NUP trailed with 351 votes. Nandala has also held this seat for over 20 years.
FDC also registered another victory in Budadiri East, after ousting NRM’s Vincent Woboya who lost to Isaiah John Sasaga.
Sasaga scored 16,776 votes, followed by independent candidate, Nakiyi John with 7,941 votes while Woboya held the third position with 4,152 votes.
Other candidates in the race were David Woniala (NUP) who scored 1,083 votes, independent candidates Godfrey Sasaga, Richard Misisigiri and Mike Sola who scored 23,53, 1413 and 174 votes respectively.
In Sironko district now, NRM does not hold a single position after FDC scooped the two constituencies and independent candidate won the District Woman MP Race.
