University youth organized under Leo Clubs have been called upon to exhibit leadership and entrepreneurship skills if they are to achieve their dreams to become successful in society.

The call was made by various speakers during a one day youth conference, organized by Lions Clubs District 411B in conjunction with Lions Clubs International at Rochester Hotel in Kisaasi, a Kampala suburb on Saturday.

The guest speaker, Lion Dr. Deus Kamunyu Muhwezi, the former Makerere University Staff Association Chairman delivered the main theme of the day; “The role of Leo’s in the social-economic Advancements in their communities” to the attentive University youth drawn from across the country.

“You should set an exemplary conduct by transforming the society you live in to engage in income-generating activities, through skills development and good leadership if you are to be future leaders”, said Kamunyu. He called on the youth to avoid being derailed by selfish leaders whose intentions are to cause chaos and anarchy in the country, where the youth end up paying the price heavily.

Lions Clubs of Uganda District 411B Governor John Bosco Ntangare, in his message to the youth, said youth are not only the strength of a nation but also pillars of socio economic transformation for a better Uganda. He called on the youth to rally behind Lions Clubs to render humanitarian services to needy and vulnerable Ugandans.

“This means, you should actively participate in environment conservation by planting trees in your communities to mitigate effects of climate change, take part in health camps to eradicate diabetes and preventable blindness plus assisting vulnerable communities access food and other essential commodities”, he said.

Students were given a platform to demonstrate the skills acquired that included among others, working in teams, effective leadership, and communication skills in the course of the workshop.

The second Lions Clubs Vice District Governor, Lion Dr. Stanley Bubikire closed the conference with inspiring words to the youth, to go and conquer the world with no fear and take on the opportunities available and promised to keep organizing similar forums for the youth to exchange their ideas and on how to translate them to reality.
